Silestone Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Silestone-compatible driveway and paver components for Austin homes, with most replacement jobs running $7,000 – $18,000 for a full paver driveway installation and $3,500 – $11,000 for a paver patio. Most homeowners discover a problem the hard way: a paver shifts underfoot after a heavy rain, a corner of the driveway sinks after the ground settles, or hairline cracks spread through the surface after a summer of 100-degree heat followed by a sudden downpour. If you’re standing over a cracked, sunken, or separating Silestone surface right now, this page will tell you exactly what to check, what it costs, and when it’s time to call us.

A quick note before we dig in: Penhallow Remodeling Austin is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Silestone or its parent company, Cosentino. We work with Silestone products because they’re solid materials, but our relationship is with you and your driveway, not with the brand.
Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone is a quartz surface brand from Cosentino, and in the driveway and pavers context, we’re typically talking about Silestone’s outdoor and architectural-grade quartz lines rather than the indoor countertop sheets most homeowners know. The material is engineered for outdoor use in paver and slab formats, but the installation method and base preparation matter just as much as the Silestone product itself.
Here’s what you need to know about compatibility before any work starts:
- Outdoor Silestone is sold in specific thicknesses. Pavers and driveway slabs typically come in 2cm and 3cm thicknesses. The 2cm material is fine for pedestrian patio paths. For a driveway that will carry a full-size pickup or SUV, we strongly recommend the 3cm thickness. That difference alone can mean the difference between a surface that lasts 20 years and one that cracks in three.
- The color matters more than you’d think for Austin heat. Darker Silestone pavers absorb and hold heat. In July and August, a dark driveway in Austin can get hot enough to make bare feet impossible and contribute to adhesive breakdown underneath. Lighter colors hold up better in direct Texas sun. This is one of those things nobody tells you until the first summer after installation.
- OEM versus aftermarket. Silestone pavers are manufactured by Cosentino, and you won’t find true OEM replacement pavers at a big-box store. What you’ll find are aftermarket quartz pavers or porcelain pavers that look similar but have different expansion rates, water absorption rates, and color-fastness. We can match Silestone pavers with OEM material ordered directly through authorized distributors, or we can recommend a compatible aftermarket paver if budget is the driver. We’ll tell you the price for both, in writing, before any work starts.
How to Identify Your Exact Paver
Turn over a loose paver or look at the edge of an exposed slab. Cosentino materials usually carry a production stamp or label on the back or side that includes the color name and batch number. The color name (for example, Blanco Orion, Negro Tebas, or Amazonico) is your fastest route to an exact match. If the stamp is worn off, take a photo of the paver in daylight and send it to us. Trevor Nash has been matching Silestone products in Austin for well over a decade, and he can usually identify a color from a photo in under a minute.

Signs Your Silestone Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
Silestone itself rarely fails. What fails is the installation underneath it. Here are the five most common symptoms we see in Austin, and what each one actually means:
- Sunken or dipping pavers near the edges. This is almost always a base failure. In Austin’s clay soil, the ground expands when wet and contracts when dry. If the base wasn’t compacted properly, the pavers sink into the soft spots. You can’t fix this by adding sand; the base has to be rebuilt.
- Cracks running through multiple pavers in a line. A straight crack through several pavers means the base shifted or heaved. The pavers are riding the crack in the substrate. Replacing just the cracked pavers won’t fix it; the movement will crack the new ones within a year.
- Efflorescence, that white chalky film, on the surface. This is mineral salt rising through the paver with moisture. It’s cosmetic but it signals moisture moving through the base, which in Austin is often the first warning sign before a bigger base failure shows up.
- Sand washing out of the joints after every rain. If the joint sand keeps disappearing, water is moving through the base and carrying it away. Once the joints empty out, the pavers start shifting against each other and chipping their edges.
- Loose or rocking pavers in the middle of the field. A single loose paver is usually a bedding sand issue. Twenty loose pavers is a drainage problem. If you can rock a paver with your foot, it’s already failing.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Austin, a full Silestone paver driveway replacement typically runs $7,000 – $18,000, with most suburban jobs landing in the $10,000 – $14,000 range. A paver patio replacement runs $3,500 – $11,000. Here’s what actually drives that number:
- Base condition. If the existing base is still sound, we can sometimes pull the old pavers, re-level the bedding sand, and reset them. That’s the cheapest scenario. If the base has failed, we have to remove it, haul it off, and rebuild with compacted aggregate, which adds $1,500 – $4,000 depending on the square footage.
- Paver thickness. 3cm Silestone is more expensive per square foot than 2cm, but it’s the right call for any surface that carries vehicle weight. We’ll put that recommendation in writing and explain the cost difference before you decide.
- Square footage and access. A 500-square-foot driveway with easy truck access is one price. A 1,200-square-foot driveway behind a narrow gate in an older Austin neighborhood is another. We pass our material costs through at cost, and our labor estimate is based on the actual job, not a square-foot multiplier pulled from a brochure.
Every Penhallow Remodeling Austin job includes a written price before work starts, a written 365-Day Done Right Promise, and a written guarantee on the workmanship. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee, no negotiation. That’s the Kingswell standard, and it’s been the operating rule since 2004.

Here’s the honest split. If you have a single loose paver and the surrounding pavers are solid, you can often pull it out, add or remove a little bedding sand, and tap it back into place with a rubber mallet. That’s a 20-minute fix, and no special tools are required.
What you should not attempt yourself: rebuilding a failed base, re-leveling more than a few square feet, cutting Silestone pavers to fit edges or curves, or lifting 3cm slabs by hand. Silestone is dense. A 3cm paver weighs significantly more than most homeowners expect, and a back strain or a crushed finger isn’t worth saving a few hundred dollars. If you’re moving more than ten pavers, or if the base has failed, call us at (325) 225-5429. We’ll come out, look at the base, and give you a written number before any work starts. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
FAQs

A properly installed Silestone driveway with a compacted base and adequate drainage should last 20 – 30 years in Austin, with the pavers themselves outlasting the base in most cases. The base is the weak link, not the Silestone. If the base was done right, you’ll re-sand the joints every few years and do very little else.
No. Quartz doesn’t repair well. Once a Silestone paver cracks, the structural integrity is gone, and any patch or fill will be visible and will fail again under load. The paver needs to be replaced. The good news is that a single-paver replacement is usually a one-visit job if we can match the color and batch.
Most driveway replacements take 2 – 4 working days from demolition to final joint sand and compaction. Larger jobs with significant base rebuilding can run 5 – 7 days. We’ll give you a defined arrival window before the job starts, and we’ll leave the driveway cleaner than we found it at the end of every day.
We stock common Silestone patio pavers and joint sand on our trucks, along with matching materials for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Kohler jobs. For full driveway quantities, we order through authorized distributors to get the right color and thickness match. That takes a few days, but it’s worth it for a surface you’ll look at every day for the next 20 years. Call (325) 225-5429 and we’ll check inventory and give you an exact lead time.
