PGT Roofing: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If you have a PGT roof or window system and something has failed, we can replace the part and install it properly, typically for $400 to $2,500 for most repairs and $8,000 to $20,000 for a full roof replacement in Austin. PGT makes impact-rated products built for hurricane zones, so most failures we see around Austin aren’t wind related. They’re seal failures, flashing breakdowns, or wear from our particular brand of sun and hail. You’ll usually notice it as a leak that shows up after a downpour, or a window that suddenly fogs between the panes, or a roof vent that isn’t sitting flush anymore.

Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s roofing line isn’t as broad as their window and door catalog, but the parts we commonly source and install cover the WinGuard and PremierVue roof-glazing systems, plus the skylight assemblies PGT manufactured for high-wind applications. The compatibility gotcha with PGT is that their glazing system uses a proprietary channel profile: the rubber gasket that seats the glass is cut to PGT’s extrusion spec, not an off-the-shelf glazing bead. If the gasket is what failed, you need the PGT-spec profile or a machined equivalent. We keep the common PGT channel gaskets on hand for Austin jobs because they fail here more than the glass itself does.
To identify your part, look for the PGT label etched on the glass corner or on the frame. The model number starts with a series code, like W for WinGuard or P for PremierVue. Measure the glass thickness with a caliper if you can. PGT impact glazing runs from 7/16 inch to 9/16 inch laminated. That dimension matters because an aftermarket pane that doesn’t match the frame depth will sit wrong and leak within a season. We default to OEM PGT parts for the structural pieces, glazing gaskets, and flashing kits. For non-structural hardware like caps, handles, and drain covers, a quality aftermarket equivalent is usually fine and costs about 30 to 40 percent less.

Signs Your PGT Roofing Is Failing
- Water staining on the ceiling near a window or skylight. This is almost always a seal failure at the glazing channel or a flashing failure where the frame meets the roof deck. The water travels, so the stain may be a few feet from the actual leak.
- Fog or condensation between glass panes. The sealed unit has lost its argon fill and the desiccant strip is saturated. It won’t dry out on its own. The glass needs to be replaced, though the PGT frame and hardware are usually still good.
- Visible gaps between the frame and the roofing material. Austin’s heat cycles expand and contract metal frames, and the original sealant eventually pulls away. If you can see daylight or fit a butter knife in the gap, water is already getting through.
- Loose or missing glazing caps and screws. The plastic caps on PGT systems get brittle after a decade of Texas sun. They’re cosmetic until they let water sit against the fasteners, then the fasteners rust and you have a compounding problem.
- Hail damage that doesn’t look like damage. Hail can crack the laminate without shattering the outer pane, leaving tiny spider-web fractures that leak slowly. After a hailstorm in Austin, we inspect for micro-fractures that a homeowner won’t see from the ground.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For PGT roof glazing and skylight work in Austin, a single pane or sealed-unit replacement typically runs $600 to $2,500 installed. A full glazing-channel regasket with new flashing runs $1,200 to $3,500 depending on how many linear feet you have. A full roof replacement that includes re-flashing all PGT penetrations runs $8,000 to $20,000, which covers the tear-off, underlayment, roofing material, and all new flashing at the PGT units. What moves the number is access, the age of the existing roof deck, and whether we’re matching an existing roof material or you’re changing to something else.
Every quote we give in Austin is a written number before work starts. That number includes the part, the labor, the flashing, and the disposal. It also includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the part fails or the seal leaks inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No re-inspection fee, no service call.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things you can safely check yourself: whether the roof deck is soft around the PGT frame, whether the caps and screws are still seated, whether the drain holes at the bottom of the frame are clear of leaves and dirt. Clearing a clogged drain hole solves more Austin leaks than people realize, because a blocked drain lets water pool against the seal until it backs up into the house.
What you should not do is pull the glazing caps on an impact-rated PGT assembly. Those caps hold the laminated glass under compression against the frame. If the frame has shifted even slightly, the glass can release unevenly and crack while you’re working on it. Working at height on a roof is dangerous enough without handling a 60-pound laminated pane. We send background-checked, uniformed technicians who do this work routinely, with the right equipment and the right fasteners on hand. Call us at (325) 225-5429 and we’ll come out, identify the part, and give you a written number.
FAQs

A PGT sealed glazing unit in Austin typically lasts 15 to 20 years before the seal fails, but the rubber gaskets and sealant joints around the frame usually need attention around year 10. Our heat accelerates sealant breakdown, and our hail seasons shorten the glass lifespan. Call (325) 225-5429 and we can inspect what you have and tell you how much life is left in it.
If the seal between the glass panes has failed, no. The sealed unit is manufactured as one assembly and can’t be resealed in the field. But if the leak is at the frame-to-roof junction or the glazing channel, that’s a repair we do regularly without replacing any glass. We’ll tell you which one you have before we quote anything.
Most single-pane or sealed-unit replacements take one day on site, including replacing the gasket and resealing the frame. A full re-flashing of multiple PGT penetrations typically takes two to three days. We’ll give you a defined arrival window before the crew comes out, and we’ll leave the roof cleaner than we found it.
We stock the common PGT glazing gaskets, fasteners, caps, and flashing components on our trucks for Austin jobs. Custom-sized laminated glass is ordered to spec and typically arrives within a week to ten days. We also work with other brands on a range of remodel work, including KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria quartz, and Silestone countertops, so if the fix turns into something bigger we can handle it.
