Jerith Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Jerith-compatible kitchen remodeling components for most models, with full kitchen remodels in Austin typically running $14,000 – $45,000 depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and layout changes. If you’re reading this, you probably have a Jerith cabinet hinge that’s sagging, a drawer slide that’s given up, or a cabinet face that’s delaminating from Austin’s humidity swings, and you need to know whether to repair or replace.

Most Austin homeowners discover a Jerith part has failed the same way: a drawer sticks in June, a door won’t stay closed by August, and by October the laminate is peeling at the edge. The good news is that Jerith cabinetry is built on fairly standard box dimensions, which means replacement parts are easier to source than you might expect. The less good news is that matching the finish, not the part, is where people get burned.
Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith cabinetry was sold through several builder-supply channels in the 1990s and 2000s, and most lines share the same 32mm hole-spacing system on their European-style hinges. That means a Blum or Salice hinge will often drop right into place, but the overlay (how far the door overlaps the cabinet face) needs to match. Jerith used three common overlays: 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, and full inset. If you order a full-overlay hinge for a 1/2-inch overlay door, the door won’t close flush, and you’ll chase the adjustment forever.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people hit: Jerith’s earlier builder-grade lines used a 35mm cup hole, but a handful of their later semi-custom doors used 26mm. Measure the cup hole before ordering hinges. It takes thirty seconds and saves you a return trip. For drawer slides, Jerith used both side-mount and under-mount slides depending on the year. Side-mount slides are a straightforward swap. Under-mount slides mean the drawer box was built with a specific notch, so if the slide itself is still intact, you can often rebuild the drawer instead of replacing the whole assembly.
As for OEM versus aftermarket: Jerith is no longer manufacturing under that name, so OEM parts are whatever’s left in distributor warehouses. Quality aftermarket equivalents (Blum, Salice, Grass) are typically equal or better than the original hardware. We’d rather put a Blum hinge on a 20-year-old Jerith cabinet than a NOS (new old stock) Jerith hinge that’s been sitting in a hot warehouse since 1998.

Signs Your Jerith Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Doors that sag or won’t stay closed. The hinge spring has worn out, or the screws have stripped out of the particleboard. Austin’s humidity cycles between dry and damp make particleboard expand and contract, which loosens screw holes over time. A sagging door is usually a hinge issue, not a door issue.
- Drawers that stick or fall off the track. The nylon wheels in side-mount slides crack after years of use, especially in kitchens that see heavy daily traffic. If the drawer grinds instead of glides, the ball bearings have gone flat.
- Laminate edges peeling or bubbling. This is the big one in Texas. Heat from the stove or dishwasher plus Austin’s humid months cause the laminate adhesive to fail, and the edges lift first. Once moisture gets in, the particleboard underneath swells like a sponge.
- Soft-close mechanisms that slam. The damper cylinder inside the hinge or slide has leaked its fluid. There’s no rebuilding those; the part is done.
- Cabinet boxes separating at the corner joints. If the box itself is coming apart, you’re past the parts stage. This is the point where we tell people honestly that patching the cabinet is throwing good money after bad, and a partial remodel starts making more sense.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For parts-only repairs in Austin, expect to pay $150 – $450 for hinge replacement (materials and labor), $180 – $500 for drawer slide replacement, and $300 – $900 for laminate repair or door refacing. If the damage goes deeper than hardware, a cabinet installation runs $4,000 – $13,000, and a full kitchen remodel in Austin runs $14,000 – $45,000 depending on cabinet line, countertop choice, and whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical.
Every Penhallow job comes with a written price before we start. Not a verbal ballpark, not a range we’ll “firm up” later. The number we put on paper is the number on your invoice. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s been how we operate since 2004. Our material list is built around brands we can stand behind: KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinets, Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone countertops, Kohler and Moen fixtures. If a part fails within 365 days, we come back and make it right at no charge. It’s written into every job.
DIY or Call Us?
Cabinet hardware repair is one of the safer DIY projects in a kitchen. No gas lines, no electrical, no high-tension anything. If you’re handy and the issue is a single hinge or a single slide, and you’ve measured the cup hole and overlay correctly, you can absolutely do it on a Saturday morning.
Where DIY goes sideways is finish matching. Jerith used a range of laminates and wood stains, and a door or drawer front you order online will almost never match 15-year-old cabinets that have faded unevenly in Texas sun. That’s the second visit we get: someone’s installed the right part with the wrong finish, and now the kitchen looks off. If any part of the repair involves matching color or refacing, call us. We’re at (325) 225-5429, and we’ll give you a straight answer on whether it’s a quick parts swap or a bigger conversation.
FAQs

How long do Jerith kitchen cabinets last in Texas? Jerith cabinet boxes typically last 15 – 25 years in Austin’s climate, with hinges and drawer slides failing every 8 – 12 years depending on use. Hardwood doors outlast laminate doors; laminate over particleboard has a shorter life in humid Texas heat. If your cabinets are pushing 20 years, replacement hardware can buy you more time, but you’re on borrowed time with the boxes.
Can failing Jerith cabinets be repaired instead of replaced? Yes, in most cases. Hinges, slides, and drawer boxes are replaceable, and laminate damage on door fronts can often be refaced or repaired. The exceptions are structural failures: separated box corners, water-swollen side panels, or delaminated interiors. Those aren’t repairable in any way that lasts, and we’ll tell you that straight. Call (325) 225-5429 and we’ll give you an honest assessment.
How long does a Jerith parts replacement or kitchen remodel take? A hinge or slide replacement is a same-day job for our crew. Laminate repair or door refacing takes 2 – 4 days. A full kitchen remodel in Austin runs 4 – 10 weeks depending on cabinet lead time, countertop fabrication, and whether plumbing or electrical moves are involved. We give you a written timeline alongside the written price, and that window is part of what we’re held to.
Do you stock Jerith-compatible parts on the truck? We stock common 35mm and 26mm hinges, side-mount drawer slides, soft-close dampers, and laminate repair materials on our trucks. Finish-matched panels and specialty hardware we order per job. If your repair is a standard hinge swap, we can usually handle it on the first visit. For anything else, we’ll tell you exactly what we need to order and how long it takes. Call (325) 225-5429 for a free estimate.
