CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If your CertainTeed paver driveway is heaving, cracking along the edges, or the sand joints have blown out after a hard Texas rain, we can match the pavers and rebuild the base the right way. Most CertainTeed driveway and paver repairs in Austin run between $700 and $4,500 depending on square footage and whether the base layer has failed. The quick answer is that CertainTeed pavers themselves rarely fail, but the compacted base beneath them often does, and that is the repair most Austin owners actually need.

You usually discover the problem the morning after a downpour, when the pavers at the low end of the driveway have settled half an inch and water pools where it never pooled before. Or you notice the joint sand wash out into the street every time it rains, leaving edges of pavers to chip against one another. Sometimes it’s a cracked paver from a delivery truck that cut the corner too tight. As an independent service provider (not affiliated with CertainTeed), we stock genuine CertainTeed pavers and matching compatible units so the color and size line up.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed has produced several paver and driveway product lines over the years, and the big compatibility gotcha is color batch and size. The two most common lines we match in the Austin area are the CertainTeed Boulevard and CertainTeed Cityscapes paver families, both of which run 60mm to 80mm thick in driveway applications. A residential walkway paver at 60mm will not survive driveway traffic for long, even though the color matches, so we always verify the original thickness before ordering replacements.
If you have the original purchase paperwork, the SKU and color name are printed on it. If you don’t, flip over a loose paver and look for a stamped identifier on the bottom. If there is no stamp, we bring sample boards out to your driveway and match the dimensions, surface texture, and color in daylight. For older CertainTeed lines that have been discontinued, quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Unilock often match closely enough for repair work, but we will always show you the comparison before committing. The honest distinction between OEM and aftermarket here is that CertainTeed pavers are still widely available in the Texas market, so OEM is usually the cleaner match and costs maybe 10 to 15 percent more than a close equivalent.

Signs Your CertainTeed Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Pavers are settling in a visible bowl or low spot. This is a base failure, not a paver failure. The compacted road base underneath has eroded or was never deep enough. The fix is lifting the affected area, re-compacting the base, and reinstalling the same pavers.
- Joint sand washes out after every rain. Austin’s heavy spring and fall rains expose weak joints quickly. Once the sand goes, pavers start shifting, and the edges chip as they move against each other. Re-sanding with polymeric sand, plus an edge restraint check, usually stops this.
- One or two pavers are cracked while surrounding pavers look fine. This is typically an impact crack from a vehicle, not a systemic failure. We lift the broken unit, replace it with a matched paver, and bed it in fresh sand so it sits flush.
- Edges of the driveway are spreading outward. No edge restraint, or a failed plastic edge restraint. You will see the outermost row drift half an inch toward the lawn, and eventually the whole pattern loosens. Replacing the restraint and re-setting the edge row is straightforward.
- White, chalky film or surface pitting. Mineral efflorescence or cured surface damage from repeated de-icing or heavy fertilizer overspray. CertainTeed pavers resist this better than most, but older installations in the Austin area do show it. We can test whether a surface cleaning and sealing brings them back.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a small repair involving a handful of broken pavers, expect about $700 to $1,200 in Austin. A section of base failure under, say, 200 to 300 square feet of driveway typically runs $1,800 to $4,500, including excavation, new road base and sand bedding, re-laying the existing pavers, and new joint sand. Full paver driveway installation runs $7,000 to $18,000 depending on the size of the drive, the paver line you choose, and how much concrete demolition the old drive requires.
What drives the number up is usually what’s underneath. If the original installer cut corners on the base depth, we have to dig it out and start over. If the base is sound but the joints are shot, the repair is much cheaper. Every job gets a written price before we lift a single paver. No verbal ballpark, no surprise line items, and the work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Note where the pavers have settled, whether the joint sand is washed out, and whether any edge restraint is visible or has popped loose. Take photos after a hard rain to show us where the water pools. What you should not do is lift a large section of driveway and attempt to re-compact the base with rented equipment. Getting the sub-base compaction right without a plate compactor and a laser level usually results in the same settlement problem returning six months later, and you will have spent a weekend and a few hundred dollars proving it.
Most CertainTeed driveway repairs are not physically dangerous the way a garage-door spring or an electrical panel is, but a failed driveway base left alone turns into a water entry problem for your garage slab and a trip hazard at the sidewalk. If you want us to look at it, call (325) 225-5429, and we will come out, measure it, and give you a written number before any work starts.
FAQs

A properly installed CertainTeed paver driveway with a compacted base lasts 25 to 40 years in the Austin climate, while the pavers themselves hold their color and dimension even longer than that. What fails first in our heat and rain cycles is almost always the base or the joint sand, not the paver.
Yes, in most cases we repair only the affected section, and we work pattern-by-pattern so the repaired area blends with the rest of the drive. We will always tell you if the base failure is spreading beyond the visible low spot. Call (325) 225-5429 for a free estimate on the section that is giving you trouble.
Most paver replacement or joint re-sanding jobs in Austin take one to two days, and a small base repair under a section of driveway might run three days if we have to excavate, compact, and let new polymeric sand cure. We give you a real arrival window before the crew shows up.
We stock common CertainTeed driveway pavers on the truck, including the Boulevard and Cityscapes families in the colors we see most around Austin, and we can source non-stocked colors within a few business days. We will confirm the exact match before we install, so you are not looking at two different shades of the same driveway. Call (325) 225-5429 and we will check stock for your model and color.
