Barrette Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide

If you have a Barrette kitchen and something’s failing, we stock and install Barrette-compatible hardware, hinges, drawer slides, and cabinet components across Austin, with typical installed repair work running $400 to $2,500 depending on what actually broke. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a drawer that suddenly drags, a door that won’t stay closed, or a hinge that snapped clean off the face frame. The good news is that Barrette cabinetry is built on a fairly standard 32mm bore pattern, which means replacement parts are usually available same day from our Austin shop, and we can match most hinge overlays without ordering anything special.

Penhallow Remodeling Austin is an independent contractor, not a Barrette dealer or affiliate. We simply work on enough Barrette kitchens in Austin to know what fails, what fits, and what’s worth fixing versus replacing.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette kitchen cabinetry in Austin shows up most often in two places: spec homes built between roughly 1998 and 2012 around Circle C, Steiner Ranch, and Avery Ranch, and mid-range remodels done in the last decade where the homeowner saved money on the cabinet line to spend more on stone. The brand uses a mix of face-frame and frameless boxes depending on the series, which changes what hardware you need.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Barrette face-frame cabinets typically take a 1/2-inch overlay hinge, while their frameless lines take a full overlay, usually 35mm cup. If you order a full-overlay hinge for a face-frame cabinet, the door will sit proud of the frame by an eighth of an inch and will never close flush. We check the overlay before ordering anything. The easiest way to identify what you have is to open a door and look at the hinge cup stamp, or measure from the edge of the door to the edge of the hinge arm. If you’re not sure, take a photo and text it to us, we can usually tell you over the phone whether it’s a standard or specialty part.

For replacement parts on Barrette cabinetry, we use Blum or Salice hardware as OEM-equivalent options when the original hinge is discontinued, which happens more often than you’d think on older Barrette lines from the late 1990s. The hole pattern matches, the action feels the same, and the parts carry their own manufacturer warranty alongside our workmanship guarantee.

Signs Your Barrette Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer opens but won’t stay on the track. This is almost always a worn nylon roller or a fractured side-mount slide. Barrette used epoxy-coated steel slides on many mid-2000s lines, and once the epoxy flakes, the slide binds. A replacement slide set is under $50 in parts, but getting the drawer out without damaging the box takes a little patience.
  • Cabinet door sags when open and scrapes the adjacent door. This is hinge fatigue. The soft-close mechanism inside the hinge cup still works, but the arm has bent slightly over years of use. Sometimes you can adjust it; usually the hinge is done. We replace both hinges on a door even if only one is bad, because a mismatched pair will sag again inside a year.
  • Soft-close no longer soft-closes. The damping fluid inside the hinge piston dries out, especially in Austin’s heat. Barrette soft-close hinges from about 2006 to 2015 are particularly prone to this after 8 to 10 years in a non-climate-controlled kitchen. There is no reliable way to recharge the damper. Replacement is the fix.
  • Corner cabinet door snapped at the hinge plate. This is a stress fracture, common on the angled corner doors where the hinge plate screws into a thin section of face frame. Barrette used 3/4-inch face frames on most lines, which is standard, but the corner cabinets put all the torque on two screws instead of four. We repair the stripped screw holes with threaded inserts and replace the hardware, which is stronger than a wood-filler patch.
  • Drawer front separated from the drawer box. Barrette used hot-melt glue on many drawer front joints. In an Austin kitchen that hits 90-plus degrees for months at a time, that glue lets go. The fix is mechanical: we pull the front, sand the surfaces, and reattach with polyurethane adhesive plus countersunk screws from the inside of the box, then touch the screw heads to match.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

For Barrette kitchen parts and installation in Austin, you’re generally looking at $400 to $800 for a full hinge and slide replacement on 8 to 12 doors and drawers, including parts and labor. If the issue is isolated, say one broken hinge and a stripped screw plate, that’s usually a $150 to $250 service call with everything included. If the cabinet box itself is damaged, like a split side panel from a failed drawer slide that allowed the drawer to torque, we can sometimes rebuild the box rather than replace the entire cabinet, which runs $1,200 to $2,500 depending on the size and whether the cabinet is face-frame or frameless.

Every Barrette repair we do in Austin gets a written price before we start, a written guarantee on the work, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee. That’s the Kingswell standard we’ve operated under since 2004.

DIY or Call Us?

There are exactly two things you can safely do yourself: tighten a loose hinge screw with a Phillips head, and check whether a misaligned door just needs the adjustment screw turned a quarter turn. Beyond that, we’d rather you call us. Replacing a soft-close hinge on a frameless Barrette cabinet means setting the cup depth and overlay precisely, and getting it wrong means drilling new holes in a cabinet that’s no longer in production. Same goes for drawer slides: if you force a drawer out past a broken slide, you can split the side panel, and now you’re paying for a box rebuild instead of a $50 slide replacement. Trevor Nash will tell you the same thing on the phone: “Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.” Call (325) 225-5429 and we’ll give you an honest read on whether it’s a handyman fix or a call-us-now fix.
