Atlas Roofing: The Austin Owner’s Guide

If your Atlas roof is leaking, lifting, or showing granule loss, replacement shingles and underlayment typically run $400 – $1,800 for repair work and $8,000 – $20,000 for a full re-roof in Austin, depending on square footage and decking condition. We match Atlas shingle lines including StormMaster, Pinnacle, and GlassMaster to the existing roof rather than slapping on a mismatched color or profile that sticks out from the curb. Most homeowners discover a problem after a hailstorm rolls through Round Rock or a July afternoon pushes attic heat through a failing ridge vent.

Penhallow Remodeling Austin is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Atlas Roofing. We stock common Atlas-compatible components and source specialty items directly from local Austin supply houses when a job calls for it.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

Atlas splits its residential shingle lines into three main families: StormMaster (impact-rated, built for hail country), Pinnacle (the architectural laminate most Texas roofs wear), and GlassMaster (a three-tab option still seen on older Austin homes from the 1990s and early 2000s). Each line has its own nailing strip placement and exposure width, which means a Pinnacle shingle will not seat correctly against a patch of StormMaster without visible ridging.

The practical gotcha we see: Atlas Pinnacle comes in both standard and High Country profiles, and the two are not interchangeable on the same slope. High Country has a thicker shadow line and a different exposure. If you do not know which one is on your roof, we can read the bundle label from the last repair or pull a single shingle to check the backside stamp. For Atlas accessories like hip and ridge caps, underlayment, and ventilation, quality aftermarket options from GAF or Owens Corning usually perform fine, but we default to Atlas-matched material when the roof is under an active manufacturer warranty. Mixing brands mid-roof is the fastest way to void that coverage.

Signs Your Atlas Roofing Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutters. Austin’s UV index cooks the asphalt layer on Atlas shingles faster than northern climates. If you are seeing a tablespoon or more of granules per linear foot of gutter, the shingle surface is breaking down and the fiberglass mat will start showing within a season or two.
  • Curling at the edges or corners. This usually traces back to trapped attic heat, which is common in older Austin homes with inadequate ridge or soffit ventilation. The shingle tabs lift, the adhesive strip lets go, and wind gets under them.
  • Buckling rows that look like speed bumps. Nine times out of ten this is the decking moving underneath, not the shingle itself. Austin’s humidity swings expand and contract plywood sheathing, and if the original roofer did not leave expansion gaps, the whole field buckles.
  • Stains spreading on ceilings after a hard rain. A single failed course of Atlas underlayment near a valley or pipe boot can let water travel twelve feet before it shows up indoors. The stain on your living room ceiling is rarely directly under the actual leak.
  • Missing shingles after the last storm. Atlas StormMaster is rated for impact, but the nail seal is only as good as the original install. If shingles blew off, the wind found a weak bond, and the next storm will take more.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled primary suite with built-in wardrobes and a window seat

For Atlas roof work in Austin, repair jobs land between $400 and $1,800 depending on how many shingles need replacing, whether we need to replace underlayment or flashing, and how steep your roof pitch is. A full Atlas re-roof runs $8,000 – $20,000. What moves that number: roof square footage, whether the old decking is intact or needs section replacement, the shingle line you choose, and how many penetrations (pipes, vents, skylights) we have to flash and seal.

Every quote we write includes the material, the labor, the tear-off, the dump fees, and the permit. The number we hand you before starting is the number on the invoice when we finish. No change orders for “unexpected” decking we should have caught during the initial inspection. And per the Kingswell standard we operate under, the repair carries a written guarantee. If something fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That includes a free second visit if a repair we made does not hold.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things an Austin homeowner can safely do: eyeball the ridge line from the ground with binoculars, clear valley debris with a leaf blower from the ladder, and note where granules collect in the gutter. That information helps us price the job faster. What you should not do is get up on a steep Austin roof after a rainstorm, or attempt to reseal lifting shingles with a caulk gun from a ladder. It is not worth a fall, and beyond the fall risk, walking on a compromised Atlas roof can crack the decking under shingles that were already failing.

If you have got granules piling up or a stain spreading on the ceiling, call (325) 225-5429. We will send a background-checked, uniformed technician out in a real arrival window and give you a written price before any work starts. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
