Cover Fence Installation: The Austin Owner’s Guide

Cover fence installation in Austin typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a complete project, depending on linear footage, fence style, and whether the existing Cover product needs a full teardown or a partial replacement. We stock Cover-compatible fence panels and hardware on our trucks, and most Austin jobs are completed in one to two days once materials are confirmed. Most owners discover their Cover fence has failed when a panel starts leaning after a storm, a post wobbles at the base, or the gate drags against the latch side after a few seasons of Texas clay shift.

If you’re staring at a sagging Cover fence line right now, the first thing to know is this: you don’t need to rip out the whole system. A failed post or a cracked panel is a localized problem, and matching the right part beats replacing the run. That’s where most Austin fence calls start, and where we can usually save you real money.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover is a modular fence brand most commonly seen in Austin’s newer subdivisions, particularly in areas like Mueller, Easton Park, and parts of Cedar Park where builders spec’d it for HOA consistency. The system uses interlocking aluminum or composite panels with steel-reinforced posts, and the compatibility gotcha is this: Cover changed its post channel width on certain series around 2021, and the older 2-3/8″ post groove will not accept the newer panel profile without a retrofit bracket.

Before you buy a replacement panel, look for the series label on the inside face of a post cap or stamped on the bottom rail of an existing panel. If the label is gone, measure the channel opening on the post. If it’s under two inches, you have the original Cover series. If it’s wider, you have the current series. We can match either one. For most Austin homeowners, a quality aftermarket panel from the same extruder that supplies Cover’s Texas distributor is functionally identical and runs 20 – 30% less than an OEM panel ordered direct. The key is matching the alloy and the powder-coat color code, because Austin sun fades mismatched panels at different rates, and in six months you’ll see it.

We’re an independent contractor, not a Cover-authorized dealer, which means we can source both OEM Cover parts and the aftermarket equivalents without pushing one over the other. If the OEM panel is the right call for your run, we’ll tell you. If the aftermarket panel saves you $800 and you can’t tell the difference, we’ll tell you that too.

Signs Your Cover Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean after rain. Austin’s expansive clay soil swells when wet and shrinks when dry. A Cover post set in less than 18 inches of concrete will start to lean within two to three wet seasons, and the panel seams will open up at the top corner first.
  • Gate drag on the latch side. The hinges on Cover gates are adjustable, but once the post they’re mounted to moves even a quarter inch off plumb, the gate starts dragging. You’ll see scrape marks on the latch plate or a bent bottom corner on the gate frame.
  • Panel rattle in the channel. Cover panels float inside the post channels with a rubber buffer. When that buffer dries out and cracks in Austin’s heat, the panel rattles with every gust of wind. You can hear it from inside the house if the wind is right.
  • Powder coat flaking at the bottom rail. Sprinkler overspray and Austin’s hard water eat at the bottom edge of Cover panels faster than anywhere else on the fence. Once the coating starts lifting, the aluminum underneath pits, and the panel is on borrowed time.
  • Separation at a corner post. Corner posts take tension from both directions. A failing corner post shows up as a visible gap where two panels used to meet flush inside the channel.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

Here’s what a Cover fence installation or repair costs in Austin, straight numbers:

Scope Installed Price Range
Single post replacement (dig, set, rehang panels) $350 – $700
Single panel replacement (matched to series) $280 – $550
Gate rebuild with hardware $650 – $1,400
Partial run (up to 40 linear feet) $1,800 – $3,800
Full Cover fence installation (60 – 120 linear feet) $3,500 – $9,000

What drives the range: total linear footage, post spacing on your existing run, how much concrete we’re pulling out, and whether your HOA requires the exact OEM panel or allows a matched aftermarket. Every quote includes parts, labor, haul-off of the old material, and a written line-item price before we start. There’s no change order at the door. The number Trevor gives you is the number on the invoice.

Any structural failure on a post or gate we install is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing. If a panel we hung fails inside the first year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the whole point of the guarantee.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a single Cover panel inside an existing channel is doable if you have the right panel profile and a rubber mallet. But digging and setting a leaning post is where DIY goes sideways in Austin. The hole has to go deep enough to get below the clay’s active movement zone, the post has to be braced plumb while the concrete sets, and if your fence line is near a gas, electric, or irrigation line, you’re digging blind. Marking utilities is free through Texas 811, but a post hole that hits a sprinkler main turns a $500 repair into a $1,800 irrigation job plus a fence repair.

If the post is moving, call us at (325) 225-5429. We’ll tell you what we see, what it costs, and what we’d do if it were our fence. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
