Oldcastle Fence Installation: The Austin Owner’s Guide

If you’ve got an Oldcastle fence post that’s leaning, a gate sagging off its hinges, or a concrete footer that’s cracked through, you’re probably wondering what it costs to make it right in Austin. A full Oldcastle fence installation in the Austin area typically runs $3,500 – $9,000, depending on linear footage, panel style, and whether we’re replacing a single section or the whole run. Most owners discover the problem after a hard rain or a freeze-thaw cycle, when the ground shifts and a post that looked fine in October is suddenly 4 inches out of plumb by February.

Oldcastle fence systems, whether you’ve got the Architectural Series, the Estate collection, or a builder-grade vinyl line from the early 2000s, share a common weakness: the point where aluminum or vinyl meets concrete. Austin’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and over a decade that movement works its way up from the post base. We handle these jobs regularly for homeowners across South Congress, Circle C, Mueller, and up toward Round Rock.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

We work on Oldcastle’s full fence lineup, including the Infinity and Imperial vinyl systems, the Aluminum Estate series, and their older concrete-molded post and panel designs that were common in Austin subdivisions built between 1995 and 2010. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: Oldcastle changed their post wall thickness from 0.135″ to 0.100″ around 2012, which means a replacement panel from a post-2015 order won’t always seat properly into a pre-2012 post without a shim kit or a post sleeve adapter. You can check your fence tag (usually on the back of the top rail, inside the hinge post for gates) for the series code, or measure the post cap: 4″ square means Infinity, 5″ square means the Imperial line.

When it comes to parts, we stock genuine Oldcastle panels and posts for the most common Austin-era series, and we also carry a manufacturer-equivalent line for discontinued colors. Aftermarket vinyl panels hold up fine in Texas sun if you go with a cap stock formulation (the UV-stabilized outer layer), but cheap regrind vinyl fades to chalk in 36 months. On any job over $2,000 we’ll show you the per-panel and per-post cost upfront before we order anything.

Signs Your Oldcastle Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean of 2 inches or more at the top rail. This almost always means the concrete footer has cracked or the post has sheared at the base where a weed trimmer line has worn a groove year after year.
  • Gate drags across the ground in summer, swings free in winter. Austin’s clay swells and shrinks seasonally. If the gate post wasn’t set below the frost-specific clay line, it heaves. We see this most often on west-facing fences where rain pools against the post base.
  • Panels bowing or popping out of the post channels after a storm. Oldcastle panels slide into a routed channel. As posts shift, the channel opens slightly wider than the 0.75″ panel thickness, and a strong gust pushes the panel out.
  • White chalky film on your hands after touching the fence. This is UV degradation. It means the outer cap stock is gone, and the structural vinyl underneath is now exposed. It’s not just cosmetic; the panel loses impact resistance and will crack on the next hail storm.
  • Hairline cracks running up the post corners near the bottom. These start from over-tightened install screws from the original build. Water gets in, then Austin’s occasional 20-degree night turns it to ice, and the crack runs. Once it reaches the top rail, you’ve lost the post’s structural bite.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

What an Oldcastle fence installation costs in Austin

Scope Typical Austin Price Range
Single post replacement (vinyl or aluminum) $350 – $650
Gate rebuild with new frame, hinges, and latch $800 – $1,800
Section replacement (2 – 3 panels, 2 posts) $1,200 – $2,800
Full Oldcastle fence installation (150 – 200 linear feet) $3,500 – $9,000

What drives the number up: old concrete removal if the footers need to be jackhammered out, matching discontinued colors (we’ll have to source a color-match run that costs 15 – 20% more), and gate hardware upgrades if you’re moving from a gravity latch to a self-closing MagnaLatch for pool code compliance. What drives it down: short runs with unobstructed access, common white panels we stock on the truck, and jobs where the existing concrete footers are clean enough to reuse with a post sleeve. Every job gets a written line-item quote before we start. You’ll get a written 365-Day Done Right Promise covering the install: if a post shifts, a gate sags, or hardware fails inside the guarantee period, we return and make it right at no charge. That’s on paper, not a handshake.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check a few things: run a string line along the fence to see where it’s actually out of line, look for standing water at post bases after rain, and watch whether the gate still latches square in both July and January. Those tell us a lot on the phone. What we don’t recommend anyone tackle alone: digging out a 30-inch-deep concrete footer in Texas clay in August, setting a new post plumb while concrete cures, or re-hanging a heavy gate on a fresh post without a second set of hands. A vinyl post that’s poured even 2 degrees out of plumb locks that error in for the life of the fence, and the panel channels won’t line up. We’ve been behind enough DIY repair jobs near South Congress to know the pattern: the fence looks straight until the first real rain, then it follows the clay. If you want a number before you commit to anything, call us. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.

We’re an independent Austin contractor, not affiliated with Oldcastle, which means we’re free to recommend the right fix instead of the brand-approved one. Call (325) 225-5429 for a free written estimate on any Oldcastle fence installation in Austin. Live person, every time.
