Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
Replacing a failed Techo-Bloc paver or driveway section in Austin typically runs $700 – $3,000 depending on how many units need to be pulled, what’s happening with the base underneath, and whether we’re color-matching an older product line that Techo-Bloc has since retired. We stock the most common Techo-Bloc driveway pavers on our trucks and can usually match your existing pattern the same day we come out. Most Austin homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a paver sinks after a heavy rain, a corner chips from a car tire, or a whole run shifts because the sand jointing washed out and nobody caught it early.

Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To
We work with the Techo-Bloc paver lines most commonly installed across Austin driveways and patios: Blu 60, Blu 80, Industria, Mista, Borealis, and the Estate wall line when it ties into a paver base. Each series uses different paver dimensions. Blu 60 units run 60mm thick, Blu 80 runs 80mm, and mixing them up is the fastest way to create a trip hazard along your driveway edge. The compatibility gotcha most people miss: Techo-Bloc changed several color blends over the years. An OEM replacement paver ordered today in “Shale Grey” may not match the Shale Grey installed in 2015, because quarry sources and pigment suppliers changed. When we come out, we pull a clean unit from an edge or corner, match it against current stock and the next-closest blend, and show you the difference before any work is quoted. We are an independent Austin service provider, not a Techo-Bloc dealer or affiliate, which means we’ll tell you honestly when a quality aftermarket unit from a local Austin stone yard does the job just as well for less money.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Sunken or lipped pavers near the curb cut. This is almost always a sub-base problem, not a paver problem. Austin’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and driveways poured over thin gravel or straight dirt will migrate. The pavers aren’t failing; the ground under them gave up.
- Jointing sand washing out after every storm. Polymer sand should last years, not months. If you see sand flowing down your driveway every time it rains, the original install is still settling, or the jointing sand wasn’t compacted properly. Left alone, the pavers start shifting and chipping against each other.
- Rocking pavers underfoot. You step on a paver and it tips. That means the bedding layer beneath that single unit has eroded or washed away, while the surrounding units stay put. This is the easiest fix when caught early and the most annoying to ignore for six months.
- Wide, uneven gaps appearing between runs. Techo-Bloc pavers are designed for tight joints, usually 1/8″ or less. When gaps open up to 1/4″ or more, the pattern is slowly spreading, and every freeze-thaw cycle Austin gets (rare, but we get them) pries it further apart.
- Chipping along paver edges and corners. Austin’s hot summers bake the surface, and when a car tire clips a paver that’s already slightly elevated from base settlement, the edge fractures. One chipped paver looks like a blemish. A dozen chipped pavers means the whole field is moving.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we tell Austin homeowners when they ask what this costs, because “it depends” doesn’t help anybody.
- Single paver swap (one to five units): $700 – $1,200 installed, including removing the damaged units, re-laying the bedding sand, and replacing the polymer jointing sand around the patch.
- Sectional repair (a sunken or shifted run of 10 – 30 square feet): $1,200 – $2,500 installed, including pull-and-reuse of existing pavers where possible, re-grading the base, and compacting before reset.
- Full driveway overlay or large-scale reset: $7,000 – $18,000 installed, which matches the paver driveway installation range across Austin. This is replacement territory, not patch work.
What drives the price up or down: how deep we have to dig to fix the base (an inch of new sand versus 8 inches of new road base and fabric), how many new Techo-Bloc units you need versus how many can be salvaged, and whether we need to cut pavers to match a curve or border. Every quote is a written number before work starts, and the labor carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the patch fails inside a year, we’re back out at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?
Replacing one Techo-Bloc paver is not dangerous the way a garage spring is. You won’t get hurt pulling up a single unit, re-leveling the sand, and dropping in a replacement. What hurts is the result when the base has failed and you don’t know it. A homeowner can handle the surface symptom and six months later the new paver is sitting 1/2″ lower than the rest, because the actual problem was six inches below the surface. That’s the call where we come out, pull the paver, discover the washed-out sub-base, and the repair is double what it would have been if we’d checked it the first time. Trevor Nash has been fixing Austin driveways long enough to know that most paver issues are base issues wearing a paver costume. FAQs

A properly installed Techo-Bloc driveway in Austin lasts 25 to 35 years for the pavers themselves, though the base and jointing sand usually need attention every 10 to 15 years because our clay soil heaves more than most installers account for. The pavers are dense concrete units; what fails is the system under and between them. Call (325) 225-5429 for an honest assessment of what’s actually wearing out on your driveway.
A hairline crack can sometimes be stabilized with an epoxy fill, but it’s usually a temporary fix that shows every freeze cycle. For load-bearing driveway pavers, a cracked unit is generally a replace-the-unit job, not a patch job, because the structural value of a driveway paver depends on it staying in one piece. We’ll show you the cracked paver and the replacement option side by side before you spend a dollar.
A single-paver swap takes about an hour on site, including pulling the unit, re-bedding, setting the replacement, and sweeping in fresh polymer sand. A sectional repair of 10 to 30 square feet is typically a full day. Larger resets run multiple days, and we’ll give you a written arrival window before the crew shows up.
We keep the most common Techo-Bloc driveway lines like Blu 60 and Blu 80 in standard Austin color blends on our trucks, so a simple swap is usually same-day. Specialty colors, older blends, or specific series like Industria often require a two to five day order from a regional Techo-Bloc supplier. We also stock compatible parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products for our remodeling clients.
