ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
We stock and install ActiveYards-compatible driveway and paver components throughout Austin, with most replacements running $7,000 – $18,000 installed depending on square footage, base prep, and the specific ActiveYards series you’re matching. Most Austin homeowners discover a problem the same way: a gate post starts leaning after a spring storm, a paver sinks where the sprinkler line runs, or the driveway edge begins crumbling where tires track over it every morning. The good news is that ActiveYards systems are built for modular repair, which means you usually don’t need a full tear-out when one section fails.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards sells several distinct product lines under their name: aluminum and vinyl fence systems, gate hardware, and in recent years a line of modular paver edging and driveway transition components. The compatibility gotcha most Austin owners run into is this: ActiveYards has changed its post-to-panel fastener spacing twice since 2018. You can’t eyeball it. Look for the stamped series code on the inside face of a post cap or the underside of a paver edge rail. It will read something like “AY-4” or “AY-6” followed by a batch number. If that stamp is worn off, measure the bolt spacing center-to-center. Series 4 uses 3-1/2 inches. Series 6 uses 4-1/4 inches. We keep both fastener kits on the truck because it’s the single most common mismatch we see when a homeowner has bought parts online and they don’t seat properly in an older installation.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with ActiveYards directly. That matters only in one practical way: when OEM parts are backordered through the manufacturer’s channel, we source through trade distributors who supply the same spec. For driveway pavers specifically, we typically install Belgard or Unilock pavers as the material layer and use ActiveYards edging and transition hardware where the driveway meets a fence line or gate. The aftermarket equivalents we use carry the same dimensional tolerance, and we tell you before ordering whether the job calls for OEM or an equivalent. No surprises at the invoice.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Paver sinkage near the garage apron or fence line. This almost always traces to a failed base layer, not the paver itself. Austin’s clay soil expands and contracts enough through the fall-to-spring moisture cycle that a 2-inch base of gravel breaks down faster here than in drier parts of Texas. The paver is fine; the ground under it gave up.
- A gate post that leans or twists while the panel stays straight. On ActiveYards aluminum post systems, the most common cause is failed post-to-panel hardware or a concrete collar cracked by tree roots. The post itself is rarely bent. When the hardware strips, the panel torque slowly rotates the post.
- Paver edges chipping or spalling along the driveway’s tire path. ActiveYards edge rails are designed to lock pavers at the perimeter, but when the rail anchor loosens, the exposed edge takes the full load every time a vehicle crosses. You’ll see crescent-shaped chips first, then full cracks.
- Water pooling on the driveway surface where it never used to. If the pavers near a downspout or the street curb have settled half an inch, the slope is gone. Austin’s flash-flood downpours make a small settlement a real drainage problem in one season.
- Gaps widening between individual pavers. Joint sand washes out over time, but if you’re sweeping sand back in every month, the real issue is edge restraint failure. The ActiveYards rail system is doing the structural work; when it lets go, the whole field starts drifting outward.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Austin driveway using pavers, plan on $7,000 – $18,000 installed. The spread is driven by three things: total square footage, whether the existing base can be reused or needs full excavation and recompaction, and the paver line selected. A partial repair, such as resetting a 200-square-foot sunken section with new base and joint sand, usually lands between $1,800 and $4,500. Full ActiveYards edge rail replacement with new pavers field-wide on an average two-car driveway runs $9,000 – $12,000 most often.
Every quote is written, line-itemed, and yours before we start. That number covers removal of the failed section, base prep (crushed limestone compacted in lifts, the same approach we use on whole-home projects), paver install, edge hardware, polymer joint sand, and haul-off. The price on day one is the price on the final invoice. If something we set fails inside a year, our 365-Day Done Right Promise brings us back at no charge. That’s in writing, and it’s the way Trevor Nash has run every job since bringing Penhallow Remodeling to Austin.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: photograph the series stamp or measure that bolt spacing mentioned above, mark sunken areas with chalk after a rain, and note which direction water runs. What we’d caution against is digging out pavers without knowing what’s underneath. Austin sits on expansive clay, and a DIY dig that removes too much soil near a foundation or fence post can create a new problem where the old one was. Most ActiveYards failures we see are base or edge-rail issues, not the paver itself. By the time an owner has diagnosed the base correctly, they’ve usually spent a weekend and two trips to a supply yard, and the repair still needs compaction equipment. The realistic answer is this: check the symptoms, take notes, then call us and say what you’re seeing. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
FAQs

Properly installed pavers with an ActiveYards edge system last 20 – 30 years in Austin, but the base layer under them is the thing that fails first in our clay soil, usually inside 10 – 15 years if the original install skimped on base depth. Call (325) 225-5429 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your base is the issue.
Most sections can be repaired, usually by lifting pavers, recompacting or rebuilding the base, resetting the edge rail, and reinstalling the same pavers. Full replacement is only needed when the rail system is corroded or the pavers themselves are cracked through. Call (325) 225-5429 for a free estimate on either scope.
A section repair of 200 – 400 square feet typically takes one to two days, including base compaction and joint sand. A full driveway replacement runs three to five days depending on weather and crew scheduling. Call (325) 225-5429 and we’ll give you a real arrival window in writing.
We stock the most common ActiveYards Series 4 and Series 6 fasteners, edge rails, post caps, and gate hardware on our trucks, and we can source OEM or equivalent parts within a few days for less common items. You don’t need to order anything yourself. Call (325) 225-5429 and we’ll verify what your job calls for.
