ViewLux Windows & Doors: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If you’re holding a failed ViewLux window sash, a fogged dual-pane unit, or a door panel that won’t seat right, here’s the straight answer: we match, source, and install ViewLux-compatible windows and door parts across Austin, with most replacements running between $450 and $2,800 installed depending on the part and whether we’re repairing or replacing the whole unit. Homeowners usually discover the problem the same way you just did – a window that suddenly needs two hands to open, condensation between panes that won’t clear, or a patio door that drags along the track like it’s hauling gravel. The good news is that ViewLux parts are not exotic; the trick is knowing which series you have and what actually failed, not just what looks broken.

We’re an independent Austin service provider, not affiliated with ViewLux itself. That matters because we have no incentive to push you toward a full replacement when a $60 balance shoe or a $90 roller assembly would put the window back to work for another decade. Trevor Nash started Penhallow Remodeling Austin on a simple idea: tell the customer what the real fix costs and then do exactly that. We’ll give you a written price before any part gets ordered.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux builds several window and door lines, and the parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The most common series we service in Austin are the 4000 and 6000 series double-hungs, the 7000 series casements and sliders, and the V-900 series patio doors. If you’re not sure which one you have, look at the spacer bar inside the glass – ViewLux etches the series number there, usually in the bottom corner. On the 4000 series it’s a four-digit code starting with “4.” The balance system, which is the spring-loaded mechanism inside the jamb that carries the sash weight, is different on the 4000 versus the 6000, and an aftermarket balance shoe meant for the wrong series will drop the sash the first time you open it above half height. We’ve seen it happen on more than one Hyde Park bungalow.
The OEM-versus-aftermarket question is worth answering honestly. For glass packs – the sealed dual-pane units – we order ViewLux OEM or use TruSeal equivalents with the same Low-E coating rating. For hardware like locks, keepers, and tilt latches, the aftermarket parts from Truth or Wright Products are often identical in fit and half the cost. What we won’t do is put a no-name balance shoe in a 6000 series window to save you $12, because that’s a call three months later for a sash that won’t stay up, and that’s not what the 365-Day Done Right Promise is about.

Signs Your ViewLux Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Fogging or condensation between the panes. The seal on the dual-pane glass pack has failed, which means the insulating argon or krypton gas has leaked out. In Austin’s humidity, the moisture that gets trapped inside is exactly what you’re seeing, and the window’s insulating value is already gone.
- A sash that drops when you raise it or won’t stay up. The balance system inside the jamb has failed – usually a worn balance shoe or a broken coil spring. This get worse in summer because the Texas heat makes the vinyl components expand and bind, and that puts more strain on the balance every time you open the window.
- A crank, tilt latch, or lock that turns but doesn’t move anything. The operator mechanism inside a casement window has a gear that strips over time, especially if the window gets cranked hard to force it closed. On double-hungs, the tilt latch springs can snap suddenly, and the sash will flop out of the frame toward you.
- A patio door that scrapes, jumps the track, or needs a hip-shove to latch. The roller assemblies under a ViewLux V-900 door wear down on the Austin limestone dust that gets everywhere. Once a roller’s nylon wheel goes flat, the door starts riding metal on metal, and the track gets chewed up with it.
- Air you can feel through the closed window or door. Weatherstripping on ViewLux units is a bulb seal that compresses over five to seven years in Texas heat. Once it loses its flex, you get a pencil-thin gap at the meeting rail that drafts in winter and leaks cooled air all summer.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Austin homeowners, here’s what we quote, in writing, before anything gets ordered. A replacement glass pack for a ViewLux double-hung runs $450 to $950 installed. A full balance system rebuild for one double-hung window runs $180 to $400, and if we’re doing multiple windows on the same visit, the per-window cost drops. Roller replacement on a V-900 patio door runs $250 to $600, including adjusting the door so it locks square. A complete window replacement – which we recommend when the frame itself has rotted, warped, or lost its square – runs $4,500 to $15,000 for a typical Austin home depending on how many openings and which ViewLux series you’re going with.
What’s included: the part, the labor, disposal of the old part, and a written guarantee on the work. If the part fails because of a defect in the part itself, the manufacturer’s warranty applies, and we handle the paperwork. If our installation is the problem, the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the fix at no charge. You’ll get a written number before we order anything.

DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. If the issue is a loose handle, dirty track, or weatherstripping you can visually see peeling off, you can usually handle that on a Saturday morning with a screwdriver and some patience. If the problem is a balance system, a glass pack, or a door that won’t roll right, don’t take it apart yourself. Dual-pane glass packs are heavy and under internal seal pressure, and when they crack during handling, they crack big. A balance system under tension will take a fingertip if the coil spring unloads while you’re holding the sash. These are exactly the calls we get from Austin homeowners mid-project, after the window is already disassembled and the old part is on the garage floor. It always costs less to call us first at (325) 225-5429, even if the answer is “here’s what you can do yourself, no charge for the advice.”
FAQs

The glass packs and frames on ViewLux units typically last 15 to 25 years in Central Texas, but hardware like balances, rollers, and weatherstripping wears out in 5 to 10 years because of the heat and limestone dust. Austin’s wildfire-season smoke and the hard water from sprinkler overspray both shorten seal life. If your windows are 12 years old and two parts have already failed, plan for a few more – that’s normal, not a sign the whole window is junk. Call (325) 225-5429 and we’ll tell you which parts are worth fixing and which aren’t, no visit required for a phone read.
Sometimes, and we’ll always tell you if a repair is the better money. A balance shoe can often be re-set rather than swapped. A roller assembly usually can’t – once the wheel is flat, it’s done. Glass packs cannot be repaired; once the seal is compromised, the whole unit gets replaced, because there is no reliable way to re-seal a failed dual-pane unit in the field. If you’re not sure which category your problem falls into, call us and describe what you’re seeing – we’ll give you a real answer.
Most single-part replacements take 45 minutes to two hours once the part is in hand. If the part has to be ordered – some ViewLux glass packs and color-matched hardware take three to ten business days – we’ll tell you that before you pay for anything. We won’t leave you with a disassembled window while we wait on freight. The part arrives, we schedule a two-hour arrival window, and the work almost always finishes inside it. Call (325) 225-5429 to get a written time-and-price quote.
We stock the common failure items on the truck: balance shoes and coil springs for the 4000 and 6000 series, tilt latches, cam locks, keepers, roller assemblies for the V-900 doors, and weatherstripping profiles in white, tan, and bronze. Glass packs and anything color-matched are ordered per job. If you’re in Austin and your window is stuck open or a patio door won’t latch, there’s a good chance we can fix it on the first visit. We also carry parts for KraftMaid cabinetry hardware, Cambria countertop repair kits, and Silestone seam touch-up, in case that same blessed week hit more than just your windows.
Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there. Call (325) 225-5429 for a free estimate, or ask to speak with Trevor directly. We answer the phone.
