IKO Home Additions & ADU: The Austin Owner's Guide
If you have an IKO product on an Austin home addition or ADU and part of it has failed, we can match the replacement and install it. A full IKO home addition or ADU project in Austin typically runs $45,000 – $130,000 for the addition and $90,000 – $220,000 for a detached ADU, but a targeted part replacement usually lands far lower, depending on what failed. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a soft spot near the roofline after a heavy rain, a window that suddenly won't seal, or siding that has pulled loose at a corner after a spring storm. We stock common IKO-compatible components on our trucks and can source the rest quickly through our Austin suppliers.

Which IKO Models This Applies To
IKO makes a range of exterior envelope products, and the replacement part has to match both the product line and the installation year. For an Austin addition or ADU, the three most common IKO products we work with are their asphalt shingle lines, their self-adhered underlayments, and their synthetic or ice-and-water barriers installed under the roof deck. The compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of homeowners: IKO's Cambridge and Dynasty shingle lines look nearly identical from the ground, but they use different sealant strips and nailing zones. An aftermarket shingle from a different brand will not seat against an IKO starter strip correctly, which is how you get wind-blown shingles six months after a patch job. The best way to identify what you have is to check the original paperwork, or have us pull a shingle sample and read the backer printing. For underlayment, measure the exposed selvage edge: IKO's StormShield and GoldShield lines come in 36-inch and 39-inch rolls, and mixing them up leaves you with an exposed seam right where water collects. In most cases, we recommend OEM IKO parts when the product is still under warranty. When it is not, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a recognized brand often performs equally well for less money, but we will always tell you which situation you are in before you pay for anything.

Signs Your IKO Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Granule loss in the shingle valleys or at gutter lines: This usually means the shingle's UV-protective surface has worn through. In Austin's sun, this happens faster than the national average, especially on west-facing slopes. You will see dark, bald patches and sand-like grit accumulating in your gutters.
- Lifted or curling shingle corners near roof penetrations: This is almost always a failed sealant strip, which means the shingle is no longer wind-rated. The fix is a replacement, not a dab of roofing cement, which will fail again in a season.
- Water staining on the underside of roof sheathing or in the attic: The shingle above is damaged or the underlayment has a tear. By the time you see this, water has been getting in for a while, and the underlayment needs to be inspected, not just patched.
- Bubbling or ridging in the roof surface: This often points to trapped moisture in the underlayment, which means the IKO barrier has been compromised somewhere uphill. Left alone, it will delaminate the decking and the repair cost jumps significantly.
- Daylight visible at the eaves or along rakes: Missing shingle tabs or a failed starter course. This is how driving rain gets behind the whole assembly, and it is the most common call we get after a Texas thunderstorm rolls through Austin.

AfterReplacement Cost & What's Included
For a part-level IKO repair, most Austin homeowners pay between $400 and $2,500 depending on the scope. A small shingle replacement or a section of underlayment repair sits at the low end. Replacing a full roof slope on an addition starts around $8,000 and can go to $20,000 on a larger ADU with a steep pitch. The number moves based on three things: the size of the affected area, the pitch and accessibility of the roof, and whether the decking underneath has rotted and needs to be replaced before the new IKO product goes down. Every quote we give is a written, line-item number. That means you see the part cost, the labor, and the disposal separately, and the number we hand you is the number on the invoice. No change orders appear mid-job unless you ask us to do something additional. The work itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and if the repair fails inside that window, we are back out at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
There is one job on an IKO roof a homeowner can reasonably do themselves: replacing a single missing shingle tab on a low, walkable roof, on a dry day, with a proper roofing ladder. Even then, the risk is real, and Austin's heat makes roofs dangerously hot to work on for much of the year. Anything involving the underlayment, eaves, valleys, or more than a couple of shingles is not a DIY job. The roof is a water-shedding system, and when you piecemeal it, you create seams that will fail. Working on a roof also carries a real fall risk, and we would rather you not climb one. If you want us to take a look, call (325) 225-5429 and we will come out, assess what actually failed, and give you a written price. No obligation.
FAQs

In Austin's climate, expect 15 to 25 years from IKO architectural shingles, with the lower end of that range on unshaded west and south exposures. The heat and UV load here is significantly harder on asphalt shingles than in cooler climates.
A single damaged or missing shingle can often be replaced as a repair, but if the sealant strips have failed across a whole slope, a patch will not hold. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in before quoting anything. Call (325) 225-5429 for an exact assessment.
A small shingle or underlayment repair is usually done in a single day. A full roof slope on an addition or ADU typically takes two to four days, depending on weather and decking condition.
We keep common IKO shingle bundles, starter strips, ridge caps, and underlayment rolls on our trucks and in our Austin yard. Less common products can be sourced from our local suppliers, usually within one to two business days.
