Cambria Kitchen Remodeling: The Austin Owner’s Guide

If your Cambria quartz countertop is cracked, chipped, stained beyond cleaning, or simply not the surface you wanted when you moved in, a full kitchen remodel in Austin typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 depending on cabinet line, island size, and how much of the existing layout changes. We stock Cambria-compatible materials and install them with the same written-price, written-guarantee approach we use on every job. Most Austin homeowners reach out after the countertop itself fails or after they realize the cabinets underneath can’t support a heavier Cambria slab replacement.

Cambria is a quartz product, not natural stone. That matters because quartz countertops are engineered to a consistent 3cm thickness and do not need the same sealing routine as granite or marble. When a Cambria top cracks, it’s almost always because the cabinet substrate below it shifted, the overhang was unsupported, or the original fabricator cut an inside corner too tight. You cannot “resurface” a Cambria slab the way you can with poured epoxy countertops. The failure is structural, and the fix is usually a replacement slab, not a patch.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria runs over 130 design collections, and from a remodeling standpoint they all share the same fabrication and installation requirements. The names you’ll likely know include Brittanicca, Torquay, Ella, Summerhill, Swanbridge, and Portrush, but none of those change how the slab is cut, supported, or seamed. Cambria slabs arrive at the fabricator in jumbo formats, typically 325cm x 165cm, at a full 3cm thickness. That gives you longer uninterrupted runs than most 2cm quartz imports, but it also means the slab itself is heavy: roughly 18 – 20 pounds per square foot.

The compatibility question matters more around your cabinets and substrate than around the Cambria design name. If your cabinets are particleboard boxes from a 1990s build, they may not carry the dead load of a 3cm Cambria slab without additional blocking or a new cabinet run. We identify the right support structure by measuring the sink base, the span between cabinet walls, and any overhang distance on the island or peninsula. Cambria’s own guidance limits unsupported overhangs to 12 inches for 3cm slabs without corbels or steel brackets. If your existing overhang is 14 inches and “it’s been fine for years,” it hasn’t been fine; it’s been waiting.

Signs Your Cambria Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Hairline crack running from the sink cutout toward the counter edge. This is the classic weak point on any quartz top. The strip between the sink rim and the counter’s front edge is only a few inches wide, and repeated thermal shock (hot pan, cold water) or a dropped stockpot will concentrate stress there. It rarely shows up in year one; it shows up in year five.
  • Chipped edge at the dishwasher opening. Austin’s hard water doesn’t cause this, but the steam venting from a dishwasher cycle does. If the edge nearest the dishwasher shows flaking or a dull, rough line, the slab was likely cut slightly proud of the cabinet face and has been catching pans and plates for years.
  • Seam opening or lippage between two slabs. You should not be able to catch a fingernail on any Cambria seam. If you can, the original installer did not level the substrate properly, or the cabinets have settled. In Austin, soil movement under slab-on-grade foundations is common, especially in neighborhoods east of I-35 where clay soil expands and contracts with rain and drought.
  • Dull spot or “cloud” that won’t polish out. Cambria’s surface is resin-bound quartz, and aggressive cleaners, oven sprays, or even years of scouring powder will wear the gloss layer. Once the resin binder is exposed, the surface will stain darker and feel rough to the touch. You can’t reseal it; the resin is part of the slab, not a coating.
  • Counter pulling away from the backsplash or wall. If you see a gap opening behind the counter where the caulk line keeps splitting, the counter is likely moving independently of the cabinet. That’s either a loose cabinet to wall connection or a foundation issue. Either way, new caulk is not the repair.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full kitchen remodel involving Cambria quartz counters in Austin typically runs $14,000 – $45,000. The countertop portion alone, including new Cambria slab, fabrication, sink cutout, and installation, generally lands between $2,000 and $6,500 depending on square footage and edge profile. Backsplash installation adds another $800 – $2,500. If the cabinet boxes are failing alongside the counter, cabinet installation runs $4,000 – $13,000.

What drives the range the most is the cabinet question. If your existing cabinets are solid plywood boxes with dovetailed drawers, we can often set a new Cambria slab on them after re-leveling and blocking. If they’re particleboard, water-swollen under the sink, or already pulling from the wall, you’ll be replacing cabinets too, which is where the price climbs toward the top of the range. Every quote we write in Austin includes the slab, the fabrication, the sink, the faucet rough-in, the substrate prep, haul-away of the old top, and the written warranty. No separate line items for “sink cutout” appear after the fact.

DIY or Call Us?

What an Austin homeowner can safely do is measure. Measure the counter length, the overhang distance, and the slab thickness at an open edge (it will read 3cm, or about 1.2 inches). You can also photograph the label under the sink or on the underside of the counter; Cambria slabs carry a laser-etched lot code and design name that tells us exactly what to order for a match. You should not attempt to remove a Cambria slab yourself. They routinely weigh 400 – 600 pounds, they are fragile in transport, and if one falls it will take the cabinet face, the floor, and possibly a foot with it. High-weight countertop work is not a Saturday project. If you want a hands-on walkthrough of what your kitchen would cost, call us at (325) 225-5429 and we’ll set a time that works.
