Wellborn Driveway & Pavers: The Austin Owner’s Guide
If your Wellborn driveway or paver hardscape is cracking, sinking, or separating at the joints, we can help. We install and repair Wellborn-compatible driveway and paver systems throughout Austin, and for the most common failures we carry the matching materials on the truck. Installed paver driveway work in Austin typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage and substrate condition, while targeted paver repair and re-leveling is usually a fraction of that. Most owners discover the failure the same way: a paver that’s suddenly an inch lower than its neighbor after a spring rain, or a crack that wasn’t there before last summer’s heat wave.

Wellborn is a name most Austin homeowners know from cabinetry, but the same company’s hardscape line – driveway pavers, patio pavers, and retaining wall block – shows up in a lot of Central Texas homes built since the early 2000s. When those materials fail, the fix is rarely a single paver. It’s usually what’s underneath, and that’s where a real diagnosis matters.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn’s hardscape catalog is smaller than its cabinet line, which actually makes parts matching easier. The paver line includes the Wellborn Estate Stone series (a tumbled concrete paver in 6×9 and 9×9 nominal sizes, typically 60mm thick) and the Wellborn Boulevard series, a larger-format paver that runs closer to 80mm thick and is rated for vehicle traffic. If your driveway is original to a home built in the 2000s or early 2010s around the Circle C, Steiner Ranch, or Avery Ranch areas, it’s likely one of these two lines.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: Wellborn changed paver molds around 2012, and the color blend shifted slightly on the Estate Stone line. A paver purchased today in “Hill Country Blend” will be subtly different from a 2008 paver in the same nominal color. For small repairs we can blend by pulling pavers from a less visible area and putting the new ones there, but for a full patch section the difference will show. We’ll tell you that before you spend a dollar, not after the mortar sets.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Wellborn doesn’t sell pavers directly to homeowners, only through regional distributors. Quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Unilock – which we also carry – can match size and load rating. If you’re replacing a small section, OEM-matched material is worth hunting down. If you’re redoing the whole driveway, aftermarket gives you more color and finish options for the same or better price.

Signs Your Wellborn Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- One paver sits lower than the ones around it. That’s almost never the paver itself. It’s the base layer – the crushed stone and sand beneath – eroding or compacting unevenly. In Austin’s clay-heavy soil, this is the single most common failure we see after a wet winter followed by a dry summer.
- Joint sand keeps washing out. If you sweep polymeric sand into the joints and it’s gone again in two months, water is moving under the pavers instead of across them. That means the slope or the edge restraint has failed somewhere.
- Hairline cracks running across several pavers in a line. A straight-line crack across multiple units usually means the subgrade beneath has shifted or a tree root is pushing up. Individual pavers don’t all crack in the same line by coincidence.
- Pavers rocking when you step on them. This is a bed-depth or compaction problem. It feels minor, but a rocking paver under vehicle load will eventually crack, and then the repair gets bigger.
- Edges spreading at the driveway border. Without a solid edge restraint – concrete, plastic, or metal – the outside pavers drift outward and the whole field loosens. Austin homes on slopes, especially around Westlake and the Hill Country fringes, see this more than flat-lot homes.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a full paver driveway replacement in Austin, figure $7,000 – $18,000 installed. The spread comes down to three things: square footage, whether we’re reusing the existing base or digging and rebuilding it, and which paver you choose. A standard two-car driveway around 400 – 500 square feet in a mid-range Boulevard-series paver with a rebuilt base typically lands in the $10,000 – $14,000 range. If you’re replacing a 200-square-foot portion and the base is still sound, the number drops well below that.
Every quote includes the full line item: pavers, base material, edge restraint, polymeric sand, labor, haul-off of the old material, and our written workmanship warranty. You get the number before we start, and that’s the number on the invoice. No change orders because we “found something” mid-job – we do the diagnosis up front. If paver work fails inside our 365-Day Done Right Promise, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s in writing on every project, same as the price.

DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely pull a single cracked paver and set a new one if the base underneath is intact. It’s messy, the color won’t match perfectly, and you’ll need a rubber mallet, a level, and patience – but it won’t hurt you. What we’d caution against is re-leveling a sunken section yourself. That requires pulling the field, adding and compacting base material in lifts, and re-setting pavers so the drainage still works. Get the slope wrong on a paver driveway and you’re directing water toward your foundation, which in Austin’s expansive clay soil is a much more expensive problem than the paver repair ever was.
If you’d rather not spend a weekend on your knees with a dead-blow mallet, call us at (325) 225-5429 and we’ll take a look. Trevor Nash will walk the driveway with you, tell you what’s actually failing, and give you a written number. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, and we’ll go from there.
FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway in Austin should last 25 – 30 years, but the base layer under it often needs attention at the 10 – 15 year mark. The pavers themselves rarely fail. It’s the Austin freeze-thaw cycle, the clay soil movement, and water getting where it shouldn’t that shortens the life, not the concrete. Call (325) 225-5429 for a free evaluation of your driveway’s condition.
Yes, and in most cases repair is the right call. We lift the affected section, re-compact the base, and re-set the same pavers if they’re still intact. The catch is that if the base has washed out over a large area, spot repair becomes a temporary fix and a full base rebuild is the honest recommendation. Estimates are free.
A single-paver or small-section repair usually takes us half a day. A full driveway replacement with base rebuild runs 3 – 5 days depending on weather and access. We’ll give you a real arrival window on the written quote, not a “sometime this week” promise.
We keep a working inventory of the most common Wellborn Estate Stone and Boulevard sizes and colors on the truck, along with matching Belgard and Unilock equivalents. If your color blend is one of the less common ones, we’ll source it through local Austin distributors, which usually takes 3 – 7 business days. Call (325) 225-5429 and we’ll check availability while you’re on the phone.
We’re an independent Austin service provider, not affiliated with Wellborn, and we also handle parts and installations from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone. That independence means we recommend what actually serves your driveway and your budget, not what a brand rep tells us to push.
